As a child I learned

The weight of the tide

When the skies turned dark

And I turned away,

as waves crashed on my mind

I couldn’t change the truth

So I held my head high

Though I trembled with sorrow

As I said goodbye

You taught me so many things

Most important to always be true

The truth is I think of you often

And, in my heart, I will always love you

You held me when I was a baby

As a child you guided me, hand in hand

You taught me to love with all my heart

And to be the best person I can

I promise I will always be true

To the wisdom that you gave to me

Though at the time I didn’t always understand

But as time goes by, I can tell you , now I see
