The Angel Of My Destiny

I have been doing a lot of writing this week about being a throwaway. I think there are others who have felt this way in the past. A throwaway to a love that was incapable of returning the love. Or a throwaway to someone who only pretended to love you just to use you. As I look back at them now I see that every time I was torn down and made to feel like I didn’t deserve the relationship I wanted or left feeling a failure I realize that they were all just a stepping stone that would lead me to my destiny. That was the basis for one of the earliest poems I wrote my wife.

ANGEL OF MY DESTINY

By Thomas Michael Pico

Like an unwound watch

My love stands still

All through the day

Until you are near

This love once held so preciously

Now I give it all to thee

Just as surely as the busy wings

Of the birds and bees

Your kindness and your beauty

Is all that I see

And the only hand I want and hold

through the twilight of my dreams

Our hearts they beat in harmony

To the song of you and me

For time and fate have always known you

As the Angel Of My Destiny
